2015 has come and gone, but what transpired in the year, I’m sure each of us won’t forget. Now of course, one way to relive memories is through music. So while making one of my tracks for release in the year just past, I hoped that one day, it would take me back to how 2015 was for me.
‘This Too Shall Brass’ was my second release under the San Francisco-based label Carpe Noctem, Inc. (facebook.com/carpenocteminc) in 2015. The first was ‘Jupiter’, a house track named for the street in Makati on which I joined my first DJ battle.
While making ‘This Too Shall Brass’, I felt myself driven to have a dark bassline propel the track. I incorporated elements of brass instruments into it — hence the title, which is, as I’m sure you’ve guessed, also a play on the saying ‘this too shall pass.’ This thinking also really made me determined to create a track that conveyed a sense of motivation to keep moving forward and head into the future, which if you ask me, might well be the whole ‘story’ behind the track. :”)
