Rewind: Slow Jams and Von Dutch Trucker Caps
This laidback, nostalgia-inducing R&B track still remains to be a big crowd favourite. A collaboration between Twista, Jamie Foxx and Kanye West, “Slow Jamz” was created with a strong influence depicting classic soul artists and slow jam songs displaying a sample of “A House is Not a Home” by Luther Vandross.
Released way back in 2003, or as most of you would like to call it, The Before KimYe era, this single was Kanye’s first hit single to top the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, and is found on his debut album The College Dropout.
Let us take you back in time — 12 years to be exact — when your parents were still willing to invest on your unnecessary lifestyle filled with hipster jeans, Von Dutch trucker caps, silicone bracelets, heavily embossed designer logos on, well, everything, and don’t forget the bling-bling (because we were so gosh darn cool), in exchange for good grades and a huge chunk of vegetables on your plate. It wasn’t all that bad — until you find a photo of yourself wearing all of the above. But hey, at least you can count on your good taste in music.
